The "Pietro Doderlein" museum is a university museum of zoology in Palermo. It is the most important zoological museum in Sicily and is dedicated to Professor Pietro Doderlein, who founded it in 1863.
The museum, divided into various subsections, houses more than 5,000 specimens, displayed strictly by phylogenetic order, many belonging to species now extinct in Italy and Sicily, such as the Sturgeon the Eagle Owl, the Sicilian Wolf, the Sultan Chicken and the Griffon Vulture. It is possible to see rare endemic taxa, such as the Sicilian Partridge, or protected ones such as the Golden Eagle, Egyptian Vulture, Sea Turtles and many other species.
