Sant'Andrea Apostolo
Facts and practical information
The church of Sant'Andrea in Pozzale is a church in Fornacette, a hamlet in the municipality of Calcinaia
Mentioned in a document from 1213, the church was completely rebuilt during the 18th century in a strict neoclassical style evident in the simple partitioning of the facade. Inside, with a single hall, of note are the high altar composed of two valuable 18th-century marble corbels from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Pisa, transported here in the mid-19th century, and some 17th-century paintings of the Pisan school.
It was the main church in Fornacette for centuries, until 2002 when the larger "Regina Pacis" church was opened in the village. It is still used for some masses and funerals.
