Torre Viscontea, Lecco
Facts and practical information
The Torre Viscontea, also known as the Medieval Tower, is the only visible evidence of the ancient fortress of the mighty castle that encircled the town of Lecco in Lombardy during medieval times. Set among the elegant palaces of the city's central square, it was built during the 14th century on the initiative of the powerful Milanese Visconti family as a lookout tower over the territory included in the larger defensive system that characterized the unusually triangular-shaped town wall.
