Castello Pignatelli della Leonessa
Facts and practical information
The Pignatelli della Leonessa castle is located in San Martino Valle Caudina and formed the fortified core of the town, where its feudal lords lived. The castle was built within the Norman age on the slopes of the Partenio mountains, at an altitude of 372 m above sea level; at its foot arose the first nucleus of the Caudine town. The building, although modified several times over the centuries, is in a good state of preservation. It is still the residence of Duke Giovanni Pignatelli della Leonessa, a descendant of the dukes of San Martino.
