Torre Inserraglio
Facts and practical information
Torre Inserraglio is a seaside resort in the Ionian Sea and a fraction of the municipality of Nardò, in the province of Lecce. It is located on the coastal road between Porto Cesareo and Gallipoli, between Sant'Isidoro and Porto Selvaggio, and is also known by the names "Crito" and "Creto," Salento dialectal words derived from the "critmo" plant, better known as "erba di San Pietro," "frangisassi" or "sea fennel".
The area is protected as a reserve, has seabed, marine flora and fauna typical of the Ionian coast, and is surrounded all around by Mediterranean scrub. The coastline is rich in low, jagged rocky inlets, with coves alternating with short sandy stretches, and is dominated by a tower that gave the locality its name.
