Castello di Riva
Facts and practical information
II Riva Castle is a fortified complex located in the district of the same name in the Italian municipality of Ponte dell'Olio, in the province of Piacenza.
It is known by this name because it stands in the district of the same name in the town, whose name most likely derives from its proximity to the course of the Nure stream; the castle is, in fact, located on the right bank of the stream, between the watercourse and the road up the valley, controlling the passage along the Nure Valley.
Its location, near the point where the Nure begins to flow into the Po Valley, was strategic because it allowed control of the passage in the direction of the sea: through the Aveto Valley to Liguria and through the Taro Valley to Lunigiana.
