Museo di Arte e Tradizione Contadina
Facts and practical information
The Museum of Rural Art and Tradition is a museum located near the medieval castle of Olevano di Lomellina.
Housed in a renovated rural building on Uberto de Olevano Street, which was once used as a stable and barn, it collects the most significant objects of Lomellina's rural world from the 19th century to the 1960s.
The museum is organized according to the typical rhythms of the countryside, marked by the seasons. There are five educational areas that illustrate the exhibition itinerary: the cycle of work in the countryside, the environments of domestic life, ancient craft trades, the setting of the stable and stable, and the display of heavy farm vehicles
A visit to the museum begins on the second floor in the section devoted to spring. On display are tools such as the plow and harrow once used for planting corn and rice.
The section devoted to the summer period contains tools used for cutting and harvesting hay, harvesting and mondaing rice, and threshing wheat. Special attention is paid here to the activities of the mondine of yesteryear.
The outdoor areas are dedicated to the seasonal field work of autumn and winter: tools for gathering and cutting wood and for killing pigs destined for the making of sausages are present, as well as tools dedicated to bottling wine. For the tools in use until the 19th century, the typical tools of the carpenter and wool carder are represented here.
Living spaces-with a reconstruction of the old peasant house-are also housed on the second floor of the museum. On display between the kitchen and the bedroom is a container in which simple and rudimentary playthings once in use are collected.
The ground floor of the museum displays, inside the former stable and under a porch, draft horse and ox harnesses and farrier's tools as well as larger agricultural implements including a threshing machine and several tractors.
