Villa Capra, Sarcedo
Facts and practical information
Villa Capra is an 18th-century Neo-Palladian Venetian villa in Sarcedo.
Built in 1764 by architect Count Orazio Claudio Capra, "who erected it to the glory of himself and his household," with interventions by Francesco Muttoni and Ottavio Bertotti Scamozzi, it is an example of a villa in neoclassical taste clearly inspired by the architecture of Andrea Palladio.
A wide staircase flanked by statues leads to the Ionic pronaos. The garden is bounded by a fishpond on the deck of which the entrance gate opens. The statues on the pediment and the hillocks of the staircase are notable.
The Capras sold the villa to Giuseppe Bassani in 1850. Giuseppe Bassani was the father of Elia great-uncle of Bruno Fortunato, current owner, and Enoch Giovanni Battista Bassani grandfather of physiologist Enoch Peserico and owner of the Bassani villa in Longare.
