Castello di Vettignè, Santhià

The castle of Vettignè is an ancient building of medieval origin in the Vercelli area, located in the hamlet of the same name in Santhià. Since the 1960s the castle has been in a state of almost total abandonment due to the depopulation of the hamlet Vettignè. The toponym Vettignè derives from Vectigal, which was the duty paid to obtain the right of passage from the hamlet, which at the time was the crossroads between the Swiss Way and the Via Francigena, also known as the Via Francesca.
