Museo delle culture del mondo, Genoa
Facts and practical information
The Museum of World Cultures is one of Genoa's museums. It was opened on the occasion of Genoa European Capital of Culture 2004 inside the D'Albertis Castle, the former home of Captain Enrico Alberto d'Albertis on the hill of Montegalletto. Located in the Castelletto district, it hosts cultural events and the permanent exhibition of the collections collected by d'Albertis himself, supplemented by other more recent acquisitions.
Attached to the museum center is the Museum of Peoples' Music.
The tour route goes through the captain's dwelling to land on the real subjects of the museum representation: the indigenous peoples of Africa, America, and Oceania.
Along two closely linked itineraries-one proper to the castle and its creator, namely Enrico Alberto d'Albertis; the other typically museum-like concerning cultures from all parts of the world-it is possible to take a journey through space and time. Thus, the captain appears not only as the creator of the neo-Gothic mansion, suspended between exotic influences and seafaring cues, but also serves as the guiding thread of a path that, through the Columbian room, the Gothic room, the Turkish room, the Cabin and the Nautical room, leads to the peoples visited around the world.
The new exhibition layout was designed and curated by Professor Massimo Chiappetta.
