Church of Sant'Agostino, Bagnoregio
Facts and practical information
The Church of the Annunziata, also incorrectly called St. Augustine's, is a church in Bagnoregio, in the diocese of Viterbo.
Transformed from its original Romanesque to Gothic forms in the 14th century, its interior preserves valuable 16th-century frescoes and an 11th-century wooden crucifix.
The bell tower dates back to 1735.
Adjacent to the building is a cloister, made entirely of terracotta by Ippolito Scalza to a design by Michele Sanmicheli.
The church is dedicated to Maria Santissima Annunziata, although it is commonly and erroneously called St. Augustine's, due to the presence nearby of the former Augustinian convent.
On the right side of the counterfacade is the tomb of Vincenzo Bonaventura Medori, bishop of Calvi and Teano.
