Torre Mattoni, Metaponto
Facts and practical information
The Mattoni Tower is an anti-Saracen tower located on the western outskirts of the Marina di Ginosa hamlet of the municipality of Ginosa, almost on the border with Basilicata.
The tower was built in the 16th century to defend the Ionian coast from sea raids by the Turks.
Today it is in a state of disrepair, due to the impossibility of reaching the tower as a result of the subdivision of a tourist village called "Torreserena Village."
The tower is located east of the Salinella Lake natural oasis, within the Stornara protected natural area and the Pinete dell'Arco Ionico natural area, classified as a Site of Community Interest.
