Ponte mediceo, Pontassieve
Facts and practical information
The so-called bridge at Sieve is the Medici bridge that crosses the Sieve River to connect the old village of Pontassieve with the hamlet of San Francesco in the municipality of Pelago. It presents a structure consisting of two brick arches that rest, in the center, on a strong intermediate pine cone made of strong stone. Not to be confused with the two more modern bridges, road and rail, placed closer to the confluence with the Arno. The bridge is currently open to pedestrian and vehicular traffic, the latter one-way in the direction of San Francesco.
