Duomo, Enna
Facts and practical information
The cathedral of Enna, dedicated to Mary Most Holy of the Visitation, is the mother church of the city, as well as a national monument and UNESCO place of peace since 2008.
The cathedral stands in the historic center of the city, going up the historic Via Roma and is about 500 meters from the Castle of Lombardy. It juts out with its majestic bell façade onto a small square, called Piazza Duomo, surrounded by the rectory and other 18th-century architecture, and faces Piazza Mazzini, of which it occupies the entire north side.
It is counted among the major artistic expressions of the province, thanks to the grandeur, vastness, and exquisite works in its custody, including altarpieces by Borremans, Filippo Paladini, and Vincenzo Roggeri, as well as the fascinating blend of different styles, such as the Baroque side portal.
Finally, the cathedral is the culmination of Enna's evocative Holy Week celebrations and the patronal celebrations of Our Lady of the Visitation.
