Castello di Larciano
Facts and practical information
The castle of Larciano is a monument of Larciano.
It is a fortification that stands on the slopes of Montalbano at 165 meters above sea level, used by the people of Pistoia in the Middle Ages as a watchtower. From the top of the manor house, in fact, the castle of Cecina di Larciano could be clearly observed, and from it, those of Montevettolini and Monsummano, gradually up to the fort of Serravalle Pistoiese, the latter located on the hill straddling the Valdinievole and the plains of Florence, Prato and Pistoia.
Today the tower houses the Civic Archaeological Museum of Larciano Castello, where artifacts from the eastern Valdinievole and dating from prehistoric times to the late Renaissance are on display.
