Santuario della Madonna dell'Umiltà, Loro Ciuffenna
Facts and practical information
The shrine of Our Lady of Humility is a sacred building located on the edge of the town of Loro Ciuffenna, in the province of Arezzo and diocese of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro.
It was built in the early 17th century to house the venerated image of Our Lady, formerly in a roadside tabernacle.
The building, with a façade divided into two superimposed registers and concluded by a triangular tympanum, has a Latin cross plan with a single nave, punctuated by pairs of pilasters with Corinthian capitals and covered by a barrel vault; the arms of the transept are cross-vaulted. The interior preserves a fresco depicting the Madonna and Child with Saints Peter and John the Baptist, the Nativity of the Virgin attributed to Matteo Rosselli, and St. Charles Borromeo in adoration of the Crucifix, attributed to Agostino Ciampelli.
In the center of the vault is a fresco of the Assumption.
