Torre Saracena
Facts and practical information
The Aragonese Tower of Pietrenere di Palmi, vulgarly known as the Saracen Tower, is one of the ancient 16th-century watchtowers that stand on the coastline of the Costa Viola. The structure stands on top of the Taureana plateau, close to a cliff overlooking the beach of Lido di Palmi. Built in 1565, it was formerly called "Tower of Pietrenere"' to distinguish it from Palmi's other watchtower, called the Tower of San Francesco, which has now disappeared.
The tower is protected by notification dated August 16, 1913, and since September 11, 2011, it has been part of the Taurian Archaeological Park "Antonio De Salvo" complex.
