Castello ducale Orsini, Fiano Romano
Facts and practical information
The Orsini Ducal Castle is located in Fiano Romano in the metropolitan city of Roma Capitale.
The castle was built between 1489 and 1493 on the commission of Niccolò III Orsini, count of Pitigliano, Sovana and Nola.
The castle took on the name of ducal castle only in the seventeenth century, with the passage of the fief of Fiano from the Orsini family to Caterina de' Nobili, mother of Cardinal Francesco Sforza. The latter, to whom his mother later donated the fief in 1606, had Fiano erected to a duchy by a bull of Pope Paul V on July 18, 1608 for his legitimate and recognized son, Sforzino Sforza.
