Located about 20 km west of Ravenna, the villa was built in the center of a vast estate whose produce was intended for the men of the Roman military fleet stationed in Classe, the ancient port of Ravenna.
It experienced its heyday in the 1st and 2nd centuries, then the productive activity of the villa began to decline with the transfer of the military to Constantinople, and then was completely abandoned in the Byzantine era.
