Santuario di Santa Maria dei Miracoli
Facts and practical information
The shrine of Santa Maria dei Miracoli is a Marian religious complex located in Nocera Inferiore situated 300 meters above sea level halfway up Mount Albino. Initially the area housed a chapel dedicated to the Madonna dei Pigni. In 1530 the building was converted into a convent by the Nocera leader Giambattista Castaldo dedicated to the Olivetan order. In the 18th century, after a landslide, the convent complex was moved downstream and the complex went into decay. It was renovated during the 19th century. In 1973 it was elevated to Diocesan Marian Shrine by Bishop Jolando Nuzzi. A destination for pilgrimages in the spring, it is reached by a cemented road, which arrives at the base of the shrine, from where a flight of steps leads up to the building.
