The Church of St. James the Apostle is a place of worship located in Altomonte, in the province of Cosenza. It is one of the oldest religious buildings in the town: according to some hypotheses, an epigraph in Greek located in one of the chapels would date its construction to 873 A.D. by the Byzantines, while the oldest certain news of its existence dates back to a document of sale in 1182. Over the centuries the church has undergone numerous remodeling. The present form features a single nave and five side chapels. The interior decorations and the polychrome marble high altar date from the 18th century, while the exterior features a Baroque portal decorated with raised cymas and plant motifs.
