The collegiate archpriestal church of San Lorenzo is the main place of Catholic worship in Mestre on the Venetian mainland.

It faces the southwest end of Ferretto Square, opposite the Clock Tower, as if to emphasize their different functions.

The parish belongs to the patriarchate of Venice.

On the right side of the building, set back and hidden by an early 20th-century building, stands the Scuola dei Battuti, Mestre's oldest schola, a graceful 15th-century Gothic building.

The church also gave its name to the neighboring village.
