Spalona Czuba, Tatra National Park
Facts and practical information
Spalona Czuba - a not very prominent alpine peak in a side ridge diverging from Maly Opalony Wierch in a northwest direction to the bottom of Chocholowska Valley in the Polish West Tatras. This ridge separates the Dudowa Valley from the Hucianska Valley. The top of Spalona Czuba is rocky, the slopes are forested. From the side of the Dudowa Valley the foothills are steeply undercut and form the eastern gate of the Miedzyściany Gorge. There are several caves in them. From the opposite side they descend to the Stone Gully. On the north-western foothills of the Spalona Czuba and on the Jamskie Saddle separating the Spalona Czuba from the Jamska Czuba is the Jamy clearing.
Czuba is a common name in the Tatra Mountains for a peak, top, usually domed. In the past the slopes of Spalona Czuba were grazed, they were a part of Kominy Dudowe mountain pasture. Through the forest on its steep slopes sheep were repeatedly driven between the glade Jamy and Wyżnią Dudową Równią belonging to this hall, as a result of which these slopes were strongly eroded. After the Tatra National Park was established, the grazing was completely stopped. After 1982, grazing was allowed again, but only on the Jamy glade.
