Facts and practical information
The Felsenmeermuseum is a local history museum in Hemer that opened in 1989. It is housed in the listed Villa Grah in the Sundwig district, built in 1902, and named after the neighboring Felsenmeer. The museum provides an insight into the history of the Felsenmeer, where iron ore was mined more than a thousand years ago. Other topics include the industrial and urban history of Hemer.
The museum is supported by the Bürger- und Heimatverein Hemer, which discussed the establishment of a local history museum as early as the 1960s. It was not until almost 30 years later that a suitable building and sufficient exhibits were found so that the museum could be established.
