Local History Museum, Stuttgart
Facts and practical information
The museum of local history in Stuttgart-Möhringen was opened in 1936 on the main floor of the Spitalhof of the Katharinenhospital in Esslingen, built in 1469.
After the building was badly damaged in 1944, it was demolished in 1959. In 1962, the museum was reopened in a new building with the old facade. In addition to prehistoric and early historical finds, the museum mainly houses testimonies to local history: views of Möhringen, documents on the history of the association, a fire engine from around 1850, the picture collection of Anna Peters and memorabilia of Kammersänger August Kies. In addition, furnishings, household goods, tools, textiles and evidence of life from the rural past of Möhringen are shown.
The local history museum belongs to the museum family of the Stuttgart City Museum and offers regularly changing special exhibitions on topics of local history. It is available to school classes and groups of interested people at any time by appointment. Volunteers of the Initiative Lebensraum Möhringen - Fasanenhof - Sonnenberg ILM e.V. run the museum.
Admission is free.
