Facts and practical information
Gersfeld Wildlife Park is a wildlife park in the Rhön Mountains of Hesse, about one kilometer southeast of Gersfeld on the Stecheller River in the Ehrengrund Valley. It is located at about 550 m above sea level, was opened in July 1972 and is one of the most natural wildlife parks in Germany. The facility is embedded in a coniferous and mixed forest and is visited by about 60,000 people annually. The zoo stretches about a kilometer to the southeast in the deeply incised Ehrengrund and can be walked along a small and large circular path. The valley rises to the end of the park to about 600 meters above sea level and is framed by the Simmelsberg, Himmeldunkberg, by the Hohe Hölle and the Kesselstein.
