The Literaturhaus Rostock is run by the non-profit supporting association Literaturförderkreis Kuhtor e.V. Its work focuses on promoting authors and strengthening reading skills among children and young people in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The sponsoring association was founded on October 9, 1990 and was initially based in the Kuhtor until it moved to its current domicile in January 2010.

Meetings with authors, exchanges in the interdisciplinary forum, and conversations about literature are intended to strengthen reflection and engagement with literature and other cultural forms in the country.
