Burg Soerserhaus, Aachen
Facts and practical information
Soerser Haus, also called Soerserhaus and Soerser Burg, is a manor house in the Aachen district of Laurensberg. The former moated castle gave its name to Aachen's Soers. It stands directly on the southern edge of highway 4 from the Dutch border towards Cologne and is only open to the public for events.
The complex is a listed building and is one of the oldest preserved monuments in Aachen. However, its history has often been confused with the history of the neighboring Bütershöfchen and even with that of the house Soerser Hochkirchen due to a thin and at the same time unclear documentary evidence caused by the great Aachen city fire in 1656. Even today it is not possible to assign with certainty some mentions in sources to one of the three houses.
