The Chemnitz Art Collections with their approximately 65,000 exhibits are located in the König-Albert-Museum on Theaterplatz, which opened in 1909 and was designed by Richard Möbius.
The Chemnitz Art Collections were included in the Blue Book published in 2001; they are also responsible for managing the Museum Gunzenhauser, which opened in 2007, the Henry van de Velde Museum in Villa Esche and the Schloßberg Museum. In 2010, the museum was awarded the title of Museum of the Year 2010 by the German section of the International Association of Art Critics, in particular for its development work since 1990.
