Facts and practical information
Piazza Alberica is the largest and most important historic square in Carrara. The area where it is located, once uninhabited, was the ancient Platea Porcorum, the place where the cattle market was held.
The name Alberica Square derives from Alberico I Cybo-Malaspina, who renovated it in the second half of the sixteenth century, making it the new site of the city's economic power.
