Church of Sant'Antonio Abate, Rieti
Facts and practical information
The church of St. Anthony Abbot of Rieti was built as an integral part of an architectural complex that had existed since the early 14th century, which included a hospital and a cemetery. The entire complex arose at the foot of the hill on which the Roman Reate had been developing.
The church is located near the ancient perimeter of the Roman wall, between Via Vignola, formerly Via dell'Ospedale, and Via Sant'Antonio Abate today Via Tancredi. The large blocks of the Roman walls are still visible as they form the plinth of the church on the eastern side of Tancredi Street, thus allowing the laying plane of the facade to be scaled down due to the steep slope of Vignola Street.
