Collezione anatomica Paolo Gorini, Lodi
Facts and practical information
The "Paolo Gorini" anatomical collection collects 166 anatomical preparations produced by the scientist Paolo Gorini, a well-known preparator of cadavers, between 1842 and 1881, donated by his heirs to the Ospedale Maggiore of Lodi. The current exhibition layout was curated by the distinguished anatomopathologist Antonio Allegri and inaugurated by Senator Giovanni Spadolini in December 1981.
The exhibition is located inside the Ospedale Vecchio, now the headquarters of the ASL of the Province of Lodi, in the former chapter house of the friars who once ran the hospital. This room, whose ceilings were richly frescoed in 1593 by Giulio Cesare Ferrari, overlooks the 15th-century Pharmacy Cloister.
Among the artifacts are numerous consequences of diseases that were widespread in the 19th century but are now eradicated or less harmful, such as Pott's disease or syphilis.
