Museo Diocesano e Gallerie del Tiepolo, Udine
Facts and practical information
The Tiepolo Diocesan Museum and Galleries of Udine was founded in 1963 by Archbishop Giuseppe Zaffonato, archbishop of Udine, with the aim of preserving and enhancing the ecclesiastical cultural heritage of the archdiocese.
The Museum's first home was the basement of the city's archiepiscopal seminary, but already prior to the 1976 earthquake its relocation to the Patriarchal Palace, first the residence of the patriarchs of Aquileia and then of the archbishops of Udine, was initiated: this building is one of the main monuments of the Friulian city. The palace, severely damaged by the earthquake, has been restored and the Museum has been officially open to the public since April 29, 1995.
