Facts and practical information
The church of St. Anthony Abbot is a religious building in Saronno. The first documented records of the temple date back to 1385. In 1576, during the plague epidemic, an adjoining lazaret was built.
Notable are three niches carved into the walls. In one is arranged a reliquary containing some plague victims' bones and a sculpture of St. Anthony, in the second a statue of St. Roch, and in the third a marble statue reproducing St. John.
In the apse is a marble sculpture of the Madonna and a statue of St. Ambrose.
The facade is decorated with a mosaic depicting St. Anthony, which was laid during restorations carried out between 1966 and 1967.
Every year, on January 17, the very old St. Anthony's Festival is held near it, with the blessing of animals.
