Torre di palazzo Pellari, San Gimignano
Facts and practical information
The tower of Palazzo Pellari is one of the fourteen main towers of San Gimignano and is located in Piazza Pecori, but is also visible from the center of Piazza della Cisterna.
The exact date of manufacture of the tower is not known, but one document places it as earlier than 1237. The tower has a simple parallelepiped shape with a pyramidal roof; it has no windows on the square and is covered by the exposed filaretto.
The Pellari palace is distinguished by its brick facing with a string-course decoration. On the ground floor, on the other hand, it presents stone, cut into neatly squared drafts, as a facing, over which two portals with lowered arches open.
