Teatro greco-romano, Marina di Gioiosa Ionica
Facts and practical information
The Greco-Roman Theater of Marina di Gioiosa Ionica represents one of the most significant examples of the transition between Greek and Roman theater. The building, in fact, offers evidence of the gradual transition between the type of the traditional Greek theater and the evolved forms of the Roman one, no longer leaning against or dug into a hill, but built in constructions. The building, dating from the 2nd century B.C. was discovered in 1883 and brought to light by excavations by the Bruzio and Lucania Superintendency completed in 1925.
