Castello ducale di Agliè
Facts and practical information
The ducal castle of Agliè is an elegant and imposing building located in the municipality of Agliè, in the metropolitan city of Turin. The building of its central core, traces of which can still be identified, began in the 12th century on behalf of the comital family of San Martino, originally from Canavese.
In 1939 the state purchased the castle from the Royal Household, which was used as a museum. In the 1980s it underwent further delicate restoration. It is currently undergoing major static consolidation and restoration work that prevented the visit of most of the rooms. It is part of the Canavese castles circuit and, since 1997, has been part of the UNESCO site Residenze Sabaude. In 2016, it recorded 44,323 visitors.
Since December 2014, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities has managed it through the Museum Pole of Piedmont, which became the Regional Directorate of Museums in December 2019.
