Church of San Donato, Terricciola
Facts and practical information
The church of San Donato is located in Terricciola.
It stands in the highest part of the village, preceded by a double ramp and staircase; the façade shows the 19th-century renovations that changed the medieval appearance of the building.
The interior, in the shape of a Latin cross, is divided into three naves by sturdy pillars, and the surfaces are emphasized by masonry cornices and pilasters, in keeping with the neoclassical taste of the mid-19th century. On the counterfaçade is the 18th-century Madonna and Child with Saints attributed to Anton Domenico Bamberini. Particular, because of the richness of the decorations, is the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament in which the 17th-century Flagellation of Christ is displayed. The baptismal font was made in 1807. A Madonna and Child, on panel, dated 1409, is kept in the sacristy.
