Palazzo Fruscione, Salerno
Facts and practical information
Fruscione Palace is located in the oldest part of Salerno's historic center, near the ancient Via dei Canali in Roman Salerno.
The palace, begun in the 13th century, rests partially on the remains of an imperial-era bath complex and is located near the ancient Arechian court. Its owner was probably the Salerno physician Giovanni da Procida. Its location in the past has led to speculation that it was mistakenly identified with the residence of the Lombard duke Arechi II. This thesis was found to be unfounded because the Chronicon Salernitanum locates the palatine chapel of San Pietro a Corte north of Arechi's palace: the Fruscione palace, on the other hand, is itself located north of the aforementioned church.
