Santi Giovanni e Reparata, Lucca
Facts and practical information
The Church of Saints John and Reparata is a church in Lucca located in Piazza San Giovanni.
The first seat of the bishops of the diocese, when the dignity of cathedral in the early 8th century was transferred to St. Martin's it was left with the right to the baptismal font, which made the relationship between the two sacred buildings always very close. In the early nineteenth century the church was indemanized by the Napoleonic government, deprived of its furnishings and destined to house the archives of the ancient Republic. In 1828 it was reopened for worship, but in a much changed situation. The present layout dates for the most part from the reconstruction of the second half of the 12th century, but its origins are much older.
