The Rocca dei Boiardo is a building that dominates the historic center of the town of Scandiano, in the province of Reggio Emilia. Scandiano, part of the territory of the Duchy of Reggio for centuries, was connected until 1598 to the Duchy of Ferrara, Modena and Reggio and later and until 1859 to the Duchy of Modena and Reggio.
The construction, begun in the 12th century by the Da Fogliano family, is named after the Boiardo family, who inhabited it from 1423 to 1560. It was initially built as a defense fortification, equipped with walls, a moat with attached drawbridge and two watchtowers, one of which was never finished. It is part of the Association of Castles of the Duchy of Parma, Piacenza and Pontremoli circuit.
