The Scaliger Castle of Malcesine is a medieval castle in the town of Malcesine, a town on the northeastern shore of Lake Garda in the province of Verona.
The castle, which has passed through the hands of Lombards, Franks, Scaligeri, Venetians, Visconti, French and Austrians over the centuries, was also made famous by the drawings and descriptions provided by the German writer Goethe in his Journey to Italy. A museum and a bust on site are dedicated to the writer.
At the present entrance to the castle, inside the building that served as a guardhouse, a Museum of Natural History of Garda and Baldo has been set up. Currently, the castle also houses a fishing museum.
It has been a national monument since 1902 and has been owned by the Municipality of Malcesine since 2017.
In recent years, there has been a tradition of holding weddings in the castle. The location has also become popular for business events, thanks to a space used as a convegli room that opened in 1989.
The Scaliger Castle in Malcesine has been listed several times among the most beautiful and best preserved castles in Italy.
