Piazza delle Vettovaglie is a square in the historic center of Pisa, located between Via Borgo Stretto and Piazza Sant'Omobono.
Built between 1544 and 1545 at the behest of Cosimo I de' Medici, it is one of the best known and best known in the city, and although it has undergone numerous interventions and renovations over the centuries, it has never changed its original function. As its name denotes, in fact, the square has always been used for commerce, at first limited to wheat, from which the name Piazza del Grano derives, and later expanded to include products of various kinds that since 1771 have caused its name to change to Piazza delle Vettovaglie. Finally from 1900 to the present day it has been home to the street fruit and vegetable market.
