Santi Quirico e Giulitta
Facts and practical information
The Church of Saints Quirico and Giulitta is a sacred building located in Casabasciana, in the municipality of Bagni di Lucca, in the province of Lucca, Tuscany.
The church, built in the 17th century on the 16th-century oratory of San Pietro, was assigned the same dedication that the "old parish", erected near Sala, between the Lima and Casabasciana, had had since 918. In 1826 the church, with one nave and five altars, underwent restoration. It venerates the relics of Saint First Martyr, whose body and jar containing his blood are preserved. The distinguished relic is kept in a wooden urn placed under the high altar mensa. Among the works are a cycle of altarpieces by Lucchese painter Giovan Domenico Lombardi representing the Martyrdom of Saints Quirico and Giulitta, The Last Supper, The Virgin Announced and Saints; on either side of the high altar are two wooden statues depicting the Annunciation and the Announcing Angel assigned to Francesco di Valdambrino. The chancel is superb, a late 18th-century work by Mastro Benigni from San Quirico di Valleriana.
