Chiesa di San Giorgio di Oleastreto
Facts and practical information
The church of San Giorgio di Oleastreto is a country church located in the territory of Usini, from which it is about 8 kilometers away. It is part of the diocese of Sassari.
Built in Romanesque forms in the 12th century at the behest of the judge of Torres Constantine II, it was donated in 1175 by the archbishop of Torres Alberto to the Pisan hospital of San Leonardo. The donation also included some appurtenances. Some time later the church was entrusted to the Franciscan friars of St. Lawrence and continued to be officiated until the end of the 19th century, when it was abandoned.
The building was extensively renovated at the beginning of the millennium after it suffered severe damage to the roof and facade in the 1930s and 1970s, respectively.
