Mercury Square is one of the historic squares of Massa.
The square takes its name from the statue of the god Mercury above the fountain in the center of the square.
There are numerous historic buildings that overlook the square such as the ancient church of St. John Decollate and the beautiful town hall also known as the Bourdillon Palace after the name of the noble family that owned it in ancient times, which is currently used as the town library.
Mercury Square has been and continues to be a very lively and busy place, in fact still on Tuesday mornings the city market takes place.
