Stele di Boeli, Mamoiada
Facts and practical information
Sa Perda Pintà or Boeli Stele is a megalithic stele, or menhir, found in Sardinia that is estimated to date back to 3500 BC. The stele is located in Mamoiada, inside the private garden where it was accidentally found in 1997 during construction work on a house. Because of its size, it should be considered unique in Europe.
The megalith has an above-ground height of 2.67 meters, a maximum width of 2.10, and an uneven thickness of 0.57 meters; it has a concave plane section and well-worked surfaces even in the back. The front is decorated with seven motifs consisting of a minimum of two to a maximum of seven concentric circles around a central cupola.
A rectilinear incision with a hooked appendage running through all the circles starts from the larger cupels. Twenty-three cupels of various sizes placed randomly on the flat surface complete the surface.
