Chiesa della Beata Vergine Assunta, Borore
Facts and practical information
The Church of the Blessed Virgin of the Assumption is a religious building located in Borore, a town in central Sardinia; consecrated to Catholic worship, it is the seat of the parish of the same name and is part of the diocese of Alghero-Bosa.
The 17th-century building overlooks a large square formed by the intersection of Via Roma and Via Parrocchia. The facade is Baroque in style, with a flat crowning and two side bell towers with round-arched lights and a small dome. The church holds paintings of considerable historical value; notably a 16th-century Saint Lussorio, in which the first pictorial depiction of Sardinian costume appears, and four canvases depicting as many evangelists, painted in 1895 by master Emilio Scherer and restored at the end of the last century. In the chapel dedicated to St. Anthony the Abbot, a fine wooden polychrome altar from the 1700s can be admired, which looks like a large altarpiece on which six statues of distributed saints find their place.
