ponte Meier, Alessandria
Facts and practical information
The Cittadella Bridge, or Tanaro Bridge, or since 2016 Meier Bridge, is a bridge in Alexandria. The union of the two city banks of the Tanaro River has always been a history full of extreme events, and it has been of decisive importance in the territory over the centuries for its strategic function as a link between the city, the Bergoglio district first, the military Citadel later, and the communication routes with Asti, Casale and Monferrato. There are at least four major demolitions and subsequent reconstructions of the bridge over the centuries. The last demolition took place in 2009, and work on the new bridge, designed by Richard Meier, lasted four years, from 2012 to 2016.
