Cappella dell'Istituto San Vincenzo, Cagliari
Facts and practical information
The chapel of the St. Vincent de Paul Institute is a small church in Cagliari incorporated into the institute, founded in the 19th century and run by the Daughters of Charity, located on St. Vincent Avenue, a short distance from the public gardens.
The chapel consists of a rectangular, barrel-vaulted room with a semicircular apse. What makes it noteworthy is the presence inside of some paintings signed by Galep, stage name of Aurelio Galleppini, famous Tex cartoonist. The pictorial decoration of the chapel was commissioned by the nuns from Galleppini, who at the time, immediately after World War II, was living in Cagliari, where he taught drawing in some schools. The frescoes and canvases, on which Galep affixed his signature only in 1994, have as their subject the Stations of the Cross and some episodes from the lives of Vincentian saints.
